Our historic church now has a new roof!
We are very grateful to Robert de Savoye, Chair, and all of the Historic Church Preservation Committee for their dedication and dedication to this project.
We look forward to a great celebration when we are once again able to be in the historic church together.
The new roof was installed in august 2020
“Built in 1859, our cherished historic building is now assured to continue being both a special place of Worship, as well as a wonderful piece of history and defining landmark in Pickering Village.
Thanks to the generosity of many of our past and current parishioner families, local businesses as well as a grant from the Town of Ajax, under the Façade Improvement Grant Program, St. George’s raised over $90,000, allowing us to completely re-clad the church roof. The work was completed in August 2020.
The video above shows the whole process, condensed into just a few minutes.
We earlier determined that in order to get the roof done this year, we would need to postpone completing the bell tower section so as to fit within our available budget. That portion of the work would be a further $12,000 due to the need for additional scaffolding and lift equipment.
To that end we will gladly accept further donations both to allow for this particular project, as well as the ongoing preservation of our heritage church building.“
