Information and Guidelines for Couples Seeking Christian Marriage at St. George’s Anglican Church, Ajax
One of the happiest times in the life of any parish church is the celebration of a wedding. We welcome you to St. George’s and hope we can help to make this wonderful event a time of deep meaning and joy for you.
Traditionally, couples who want to be married in church do so for one of four reasons:
- they are regular worshipping members of the church in which they wish to be married, or at least, one of them is;
- they are regular worshipping members of a church in another location, but choose to be married in a particular church because of a former membership or a close family connection.
- they presently have no regular church connection but were brought up in a Christian family, which included regular church attendance, and so believe that not being married in church would create a spiritual gap in the most important day of their lives
- the church is a beautiful setting in which to be married
Couples with the first three reasons would be the most likely candidates for seeking a Christian marriage at St. George’s. Couples who ask to be married in the church for the last reason would have to demonstrate their desire for a spiritual and Christian emphasis in their marriage ceremony before serious consideration could be given by the Incumbent.
